M and J spent a lovely week in Paris, freestyling the city with absolutely no plans. It was great to have them here, and definitely a good way to tone down the stress from the Mid-Semester Freak Out (which most definitely still exists in Europe). We didn't even do anything particularly special, which is what made this visit so great. It just felt like home. Plus, who wouldn't absolutely enjoy a week's worth of delicious french cuisine with the rents!
The Parents stayed up in Montmartre, so they really got a feel for my neighborhood. My mom was loving the butte and they spent pretty much every night enjoying their chocolat chaud and vin chaud along with the spectacular views of the city. (The delicious treats definitely make up for all the hiking involved in actually getting up the butte. 84 stairs followed by 92 stairs - my dad counted cuz he's such a coolster).
It feels like they've been here forever, but at the same time, I can't believe it's time for them to leave already! At least this goodbye is a bittersweet one: goodbye to the parents, hello to M and his family in Barcelona :).
In other, random news: I had my first "exposé" this past Wednesday. It's basically like an oral presentation, only way more specific and impossible to complete entirely correctly. Plus, my Prof. has been known to give comments such as "that was average," or "that was a disaster - I wouldn't even call that an exposé." Needless to say, I was a little nervous, but fortunately, my group members are super talented BSers and great at whipping up these presentations. We earned a simple "bien" from our Prof. Hey, I'll definitely take that over "you seemed to have missed the point of the assignment..." Teachers over here are ruthless!
Anyway, more to come from my adventures in Barcelona, and look out for pictures from my week with the rents!
